Occupational and Psychomotor Therapy

Supporting movement, coordination and independence in everyday life.

At Star Bright Early Intervention Center in Business Bay, Dubai, we provide individualized psychomotor and occupational therapy services for children experiencing challenges with motor skills, coordination, handwriting, sensory-motor development and functional abilities. Children develop at different rates. Some may find physical coordination, classroom activities or everyday tasks more demanding than their peers. Our approach is to understand the child's strengths and needs and identify appropriate therapy goals that support participation, development and independence.

Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills involve the small movements needed for everyday tasks such as holding a pencil, using scissors, manipulating objects and managing clothing fastenings.

Gross Motor Skills and Coordination

Some children experience difficulties with balance, body coordination, movement planning or activities such as running, jumping and participating in physical games.

Handwriting and Written Motor Skills

Handwriting requires coordination between posture, visual-motor skills, motor planning and fine motor control. Therapy may address the underlying skills that make writing more comfortable and functional.

Dyspraxia and Motor Planning Difficulties

Children with developmental coordination difficulties may struggle to plan, organize or execute movements. Support focuses on understanding their individual motor profile and developing practical strategies for everyday activities.

Sensory-Motor Development

Some children experience difficulties processing or responding to sensory experiences or coordinating sensory information with movement. An individualized assessment can help determine which aspects are affecting everyday participation and what support may be appropriate.

Attention, Organization and Executive Functioning

Depending on the child's needs and the clinician's scope of practice, therapy may also address skills involved in planning, organizing actions, sustaining participation and completing functional tasks.

What's the Difference Between Occupational and Psychomotor Therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on helping people participate in meaningful daily activities, including self-care, school-related tasks and other functional activities. Psychomotor therapy explores the relationship between movement, coordination, body awareness, cognitive processes and emotional development. Although these approaches may address overlapping challenges, they are distinct disciplines. The appropriate service depends on the child's needs and the qualifications of the treating professional.

Our Approach

We begin by understanding your child's developmental history, current abilities and the situations in which difficulties occur. Based on the assessment, the therapist identifies relevant goals and recommends an individualized approach. Therapy may involve movement-based activities, fine motor exercises, functional skill development and strategies that can be practiced in everyday environments. We work with parents and, where appropriate, teachers or other professionals to support consistency across settings.
